On the northwest of Antirio, at a distance of 4.5 km, right on a hill of
hardly 160 m. height, lie the ruins of the citadel of ancient Makynae. In
the citadel’s eastern side, outside the surrounding wall, are the ruins of
a small theatre from the seats of which the audience enjoyed a spectacular
view of Patras bay and the mountain of Panachaecos. Excavations at the citadel
have not been completed yet, but the visitor can see the horseshoe-like cavea,
comprised of fourteen rows of seats made of local sandstone, while only a
few stones remain from what once was the stage.
